Checa takes new best lap in FP2

0288_p02_checa_boxCarlos Checa (Althea Racing) shaved a further tenth off the circuit's best lap on his Ducati 1098R to end up top in the pre-Superpole practice session with a time of 1 minute 28.696 seconds. The Spaniard was almost three-tenths ahead of Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) and his fellow Brit Tom Sykes, who posted his best weekend time on the Kawasaki ZX-10R.

Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike) was fourth quickest ahead of Jakub Smrz (Effenbert - Liberty Ducati) and Noriyuki Haga (Pata Aprilia).

Carlos ChecaCarlos Checa (Althea Racing) took his second pole of the 2011 season by posting the fastest lap of the weekend in Superpole three, a 1'28.099. Local rider Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) will line up behind Checa at Leon's home track, with another British rider, Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike) third. The last spot on the front row will be taken by Czech star Jakub Smrz (Effenbert - Liberty Racing Ducati).
Carlos Checa: "What can I say? Everything is working so well here at Donington, we expected to go well and we did it. Our progress from yesterday to today was quite comfortable, basically today the tyres were working well with these conditions and this cold. With one lap to get going it was not easy to get confidence but I was able to get a good enough time to get the pole and that's important for tomorrow."

Leon Haslam: "Donington is my local circuit and me and Tom have had some great battles in the past in BSB, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. We got a front row start which we wanted. I've definitely made some good progress from Australia to this event so hopefully it'll be a dry day tomorrow and I can try and beat Carlos this time."

Tom Sykes: "I'm really happy now with this good starting slot for tomorrow's races. I think that's the hardest part of the weekend because qualifying is always important. We had a little problem in SP2 and had to waste a qualifying tyre but for SP3 we went out on a race tyre. The second row was guaranteed but to squeeze onto the front row was something unexpected."

Jakub Smrz: "Donington is one of my favourite races. I had a crash this morning at the very fast Craner Curves, where I have crashed before in the past but I was OK. I am satisfied with my front row position and I have a good set-up for the race, I would have liked to go a bit better in qualifying but the front row is good for me."

Noriyuki Haga (Pata Racing Team Aprilia) and Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) completed the top six, while an Aprilia trio was finished off by Leon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia) with Jonathan Rea (Castrol Honda) the final rider on the second row, making it four British riders in the top eight places.

The hot track action warmed up the enthusiastic local crowd as the temperatures dipped from the highs of Friday, with the track temperatures dropping to single figures for Superpole.

Leading contender Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) just missed out on the final Superpole session and will start Sunday's races from ninth place and on row three. Haslam's team-mate Troy Corser lapped his way to tenth, ahead of lone Suzuki force Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare). The Kawasaki Racing Team entry put its second rider into the top 12 when Joan Lascorz completed row three.

Melandri and Checa share the spoils at Donington

Carlos Checa The two riders who won races at Donington today, Carlos Checa and Marco Melandri, are the two who leave at the head of the championship chase, with Checa now on 91 points and Melandri on 72. In front of 51,500 spectators Superpole winner Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) used his experience to change his rear tyre choice for race two and improve from a third place to be a clear winner, while Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) made two great recoveries from a third row start to post a win and a second place.

Jakub Smrz (Effenbert Liberty Racing Ducati) nearly won the first race, with the local fans having something to cheer about as Leon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia) went third in race two, to make up for a hard first round in Australia that was badly affected by illness.

2010 World Champion Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) had his drama-laden weekend turn into a mini-crisis as he finished only seventh in race one, and was excluded from race two after jump starting and failing to come in for a ride-through penalty. In the overall championship third place belongs to Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) on 53 points after two fourths today, while Biaggi has 49 points in fourth overall.

Race 1

New rider to WSBK racing Melandri took only three races to record his first win, finally overhauling long time leader Smrz to win by 2.455 seconds. The last podium place went to Checa after he passed local hero Haslam with two corners to go. Jonathan Rea (Castrol Honda) scored fifth and Noriyuki Haga (Pata Racing Aprilia) was sixth, one place up on the factory bike of Biaggi. A potentially great finish for Tom Sykes and his Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike machine ended in a crash at the redesigned Esses section, but the home crowd were to have a podium star to cheer for in race two.

Marco Melandri: "It has been an awesome race for me, very tough and at the start many guys were very aggressive. I kept my rhythm and when I got on my own I caught Camier and some others then it took some time to get to Haslam. After that it was only a few laps to go and Kuba was pretty far ahead. I just kept the best pace I could and in the end Smrz's pace was gone and I passed him. We missed a little bit of top speed but the package was very balanced, we won and I had a lot of fun."

Jakub Smrz: "Of course I am disappointed to not win the race but it was really nice and I am back on the podium, which is important. The feeling all the race was very good and the bike was perfect, in the end my rear tyre was gone and I could not push any more. Marco passed me and I did not want to risk anything in the end."

Carlos Checa: "I had some issues with the rear tyre grip at the beginning of the race, and I lost some positions, touched with other riders and it ended up as one of my most exciting races from the back to the front. Finally I arrived to Haslam after I had pushed to my maximum and I passed him when I had the opportunity. It was the last lap and I got third position."

Race 2

Checa controlled race two from the early laps and won by 3.397 seconds from race one victor Melandri. Camier was a contender for second for long periods, before Melandri upped the pace and left him behind. Another Leon, this time Haslam went fourth for the second time today, despite running off track at one point. Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Racing Team) was a great fifth on the new ZX-10R machine, despite not yet being at full fitness. With Rea sixth for Honda and race one retiree Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare) seventh in race two there were seven different manufacturers represented in the top seven places, proving how competitive the 2011 season is after only two rounds.

Carlos Checa: "It is a fantastic beginning to the season, especially this victory in Donington, which is something special. Basically we decided to put on a different tyre with better grip at the beginning, so now I was stable and had good grip. At the end the tyre dropped down a little but it was good enough. Everybody knows what happened here to me many years ago, when I lost something so now I'm quite satisfied to win at Donington!"

Marco Melandri: "It was a pretty good race for me. Leon was very fast, about 50% of the race I was coughing in my helmet and finding it hard to breathe so I lost my concentration. After that I recovered, I did my best and passed Leon again but Carlos was just too fast for me."

Leon Camier: "I can't believe it's happened. I started the year with glandular fever, which got me down a bit after all the hard work over the winter and to come here and get a podium at my home race is absolutely awesome. In the first race we had a few problems with the settings, so we changed it for the second one and it seemed to work well. It was a good battle with Marco, he was very strong, but to get third place is great."

Checa wipes out painful Donington memories with win

checa_donington_podium_newsCarlos Checa's spectacular start to the season continued on Sunday with his third win in four races at Donington Park for the Althea Racing Ducati team. A third place in race 1 also helped him to consolidate his leadership in the championship and the Spaniard now has a 19 point lead over Marco Melandri, 92 points to 71, with two rounds down.
Checa was eleventh on the first lap of race 1 after a bad start but then worked his way through the field to take third after overhauling Leon Haslam at the Melbourne hairpin in spectacular style on the final lap.

"In Race 1 I was struggling at the start, I didn't have feeling with the rear tyre and as a result I lost a lot of positions. But I have to say it was one of the most exciting races of my career, so many riders touching, crashing, everything! After the first laps I was able to build up a good rhythm and start moving up through the pack one rider at a time. It wasn't easy but I pushed hard and then two laps from the end I realised that I could maybe get past Haslam too for third. I'm really happy because I didn't think I'd get from 11th on lap one to the podium. We made the decision to use the hard tyre solution for the race and even thought we paid for this at the start it turned out to be the right decision in the end."

Checa and the team then opted for a softer solution after the break and this proved to be was the winning move as he dominated to take the eighth win of his career in Superbike. For Carlos this victory at Donington was something extra special as he had a horrific accident at the Craner Curves in the 1998 British GP in which he suffered a ruptured spleen that left him temporarily blind.

"We opted for the softer tyre in race two," he said. "We knew it would be very high performing although a bit less so towards the end of the race. It remained pretty consistent but towards the end I had to change my riding a little to manage the situation. My strategy was to get to the front, built up a bit of a lead and then manage that lead and today everything worked perfectly. It was great to win at Phillip Island but today meant even more to me. A lot of people may remember what happened to me here many years ago; that day I lost something here but today I can say that I found it again."

0020_p01_checa_ambienceCarlos Checa returns to the track this weekend at Assen in the uncomfortable role of being the man to beat. The Althea Ducati rider is currently leading the table with 91 points following a rocket-like start to the season: three wins and a third place. If we also take into consideration the final two rounds of last season (Imola and Magny-Cours) Checa has actually won five of the last eight races. The points leader talks about his sensational start to the season in this brief interview.

Carlos, did you really expect such a good start to this year?

"To be sincere I have way exceeded my own expectations. In Australia I was sure I could fight for the win but at I knew it was going to be tough at Donington. Instead I came home with a third place and a win, results that surprised me more than the double win at Phillip Island."

Phillip Island and Donington are two tracks that are particularly favourable for Ducati. What about the others?

"We were lucky to start the season on tracks that are more suitable to our bike. But even Assen might be a ‘friendly' circuit. That will be followed by some circuits where we know it's going to be difficult, such as Monza, Brno and Silverstone. But I'm not too worried, when we get there we'll know how to get the best results. I'm not ticking off any boxes."

Your rivals Melandri and Biaggi in Britain also hit the headlines off the track. What's your view?

"We're not racing for charity, the level of competition is high and tensions can explode. Sometimes things happen out there that can overflow off the track. It's a consequence of our rivalry and the desire to be in the lead and win. We've spoken a lot about Marco and Max but even in the MotoGP race at Jerez a few days later there was tension between Rossi and Stoner..."

The final place on the front row for Sunday's races was taken by Noriyuki Haga (Pata Racing Team Aprilia).
Last year's double winner Jonathan Rea (Castrol Honda) went fifth fastest, and world champion Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) was sixth. Top Kawasaki rider was Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team Superbike) but Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) lost his chance of pole by crashing in the final minutes and he now starts the races from the back of row two.

Leon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia) and Troy Corser (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) just missed out on the final period of Superpole qualifying but made it into the top ten.

Points leader takes win after day of drama

Carlos ChecaA delayed start to the second Assen race made no difference to the outcome, as Checa and Biaggi played a high-speed game of cat-and-mouse. Biaggi looking to have it wrapped up as he passed long time leader Checa, only for the Spanish rider to reassert himself on the final lap and win his fourth race of the year.
A battle between Rea and Melandri ended when the Italian star fell, leaving Rea on the podium in third. Leon Camier (Aprilia Alitalia) was fourth, while a multiple rider fight for fifth went to Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport), from Laverty, Fabrizio, Haga, Smrz and Guintoli.

In the points standings Checa now leads by 132 to Biaggi's 89. Melandri is third on 85, Rea jumping to fourth with his new total of 79 points.

Spain's Checa on a victory roll

checa_-_sundayA fourth win of the season in six races, the ninth in his SBK career, but for Carlos Checa Sunday's win in race 2 at the Assen TT Circuit was one of his best. Following a third in race 1, the Althea Racing man again stepped onto the top of the podium in the second run, beating Max Biaggi with a superb pass two laps from the chequered flag.

For race 2 the Spanish rider chose a softer tyre solution and the superior race-long grip level enabled him to take another win and strengthen his championship lead in the run-up to Monza, which is notoriously a difficult track for the Ducati 1198 machine. Checa now has a 43 point advantage over Biaggi and 47 over Marco Melandri.

"The beginning of race 1 was difficult," explained Checa. "I didn't have enough grip and so some of my rivals were able to get past me. Then I really had to push to make up lost ground. I tried to stay calm and maintain my rhythm and was able to get in front of the second group, but to reach Max and Johnny was just too difficult. They already had an advantage because I had lost time getting past Laverty. I happily accept the result however, a positive end that gives us important championship points."

"Then for Race 2 we decided to change tyre and so, with the softer solution, I had more grip and could maintain a strong pace right from the start. I wanted to push at the beginning and try to build a gap between me and Max but he stayed with me, putting me under pressure. When I made a small mistake and he passed me in the final stages, I was able to see that he was having some tyre trouble. I got back past him and took the win, a result that is surprising but fantastic. At Monza we will try to defend our position as best we can, knowing that it will be a very tough track for us."

ea given all clear by doctors

Monday, 07 March 2011 15:36
0814_r01_rea_gridCastrol Honda star Jonathan Rea was examined by his specialist doctor today, to ascertain how badly he had been injured in his multiple get-offs at Phillip Island. The good news is that Jonathan has not suffered any further fractures or other significant injury, and he will be able to ride at Donington close to full fitness.

Said Jonathan shortly after his extensive examination, "I have just been to see my specialist in Manchester and he has given me the all clear and confirmed that there is no further damage to my repaired ligament in my left wrist. I only have some soft tissue damage to the right wrist. That's really good news and all I have to do now is work hard in rehab to regain full function."

Rea was physically and mentally exhausted by his Phillip Island experiences, as he himself stated at the time, and it has taken him a few days to get back to normal . "It was really hard in Australia; it drained me of everything. When I got home it hit me two or three days later. Travelling home was a big effort and I also got sick at the end of last week, which knocked me out for a day. I think it was a mix of jet-lag and illness, but now I have got a spring in my step again. I should be close to full fitness in time for Donington, so I should have no pain like before. My dislocated left ring finger still does not have a full range of motion, but that is a minor detail."

Biaggi begins defence with two seconds

Tuesday, 08 March 2011 10:11
0862_r01_biaggi_actionMax Biaggi began defending his number 1 plate with two second places at Phillip Island last week. The results in the opening rounds were a sign of the five-times world champion's determination to repeat his, and his Aprilia Alitalia Team's extraordinary success of last year, when they won both the Riders' and Manufacturers' titles.

The Italian might not have taken home the winner's laurels in Australia, because Carlos Checa proved to be unbeatable throughout the weekend, but the perfect feeling reached between the rider and his competitive RSV4 remained unchanged, and the ‘Pirate' actually managed to set the fastest lap in both the races. Biaggi's form at a track that in the past has proved to be difficult for both him and his machine is a good omen for the rest of the season. WorldSBK.com caught up with Max Biaggi for an exclusive chat after the Australian round.

At Phillip Island you scored 40 points, 21 more than last year: what brought about this massive improvement at a circuit which usually causes a few problems for the RSV4?

"To be honest after the tests in December we had a feeling we would be more competitive than in 2010. My race pace was always good and that was demonstrated by the fastest lap I set in both races. I'm happy to have done better than last year and, if it hadn't been for a Checa on top form, we could have gone for the big one."

In Australia Checa couldn't be caught, and you had a terrific scrap with Melandri in race 2: which rider impressed you the most in view of the season ahead?

"Checa for sure was more constant and he's also quick, while Melandri ran a good second race"

The next round is at Donington Park. In 2009 you had a great race 1, do you think that on paper it could be a good circuit for you and Aprilia?

"It looks like the Yamaha always goes well at this circuit, they won both races in 2009 (Ed. with Spies). I've finished second there but I feel sure we'll have to sweat things out in England, it's not going to be easy! I reckon Checa is going to be pretty quick there as well."

At Phillip Island you raced for the first time in Superbike with the number 1 plate, and this was also thanks to the suggestions from your fans: was it a difficult decision to abandon the number 3 or in hindsight is it a great feeling to race with the World Champion's number on your bike?

"I decided to use the number 1 for my fans, who have been waiting for this moment for a long time. And I also wanted to gratify my Aprilia team, because it's true that the number 1 has a specific meaning and it's not an easy feat to obtain it."

New Bogdanka PTR effort an instant hit

Tuesday, 08 March 2011 15:17

049_t05_szkopek_actionBogdanka PTR riders James Ellison and Pawel Szkopek had differing fortunes at the first round in Phillip Island, but the direction of travel appears to be upward for both riders and this new team in World Supersport Racing.

Formed only this year, the Bogdanka/PTR combination saw multiple Polish Champion Pawel Szkopek overcome the effect of a few pre-race crashes to record fast times in some wet sessions, then join the fight for tenth, before a technical problem caused Pawel to retire.

Said Szkopek of his bright initial showing, "The team did a great job finding the right set-up for me for the race and I was feeling really good on the bike. I had to ride past Florian Marino who stalled at the start but quickly made my way up and had just caught up with a group fighting for 10th position when I was forced to retire with an engine problem. It's a pity, but knowing I could fight for 10th position gives me a lot of confidence ahead of the next race."

For Ellison, who underwent surgery on his left knee after a testing crash, only a couple of days before practice started in Australia, a sixth place must have felt like a podium.

"Considering what we've came through in Australia this week I'm quite happy with sixth," said the former double Superstock champion. "Because of the injury I couldn't steer the bike with my legs and had to work harder with my shoulders - and they got quite tired in the end. I'm a bit disappointed about that because my training and fitness are very important to me and are normally my strong points - but we have a month off now before our home race and I'll be ready for Donington."

Haga gets to grips with Pata Aprilia

Tuesday, 08 March 2011 18:53
0646_r01_haga_actionNoriyuki Haga, who celebrated his 36th birthday a few days ago on March 2nd, confirmed that he wants to be one of the protagonists of the season, following two gutsy top 10 performances at Phillip Island. Making his debut on the Aprilia RSV4 of the revamped Pata Racing Team, which has come about following a merger of Borciani and DFX, "Nitronori" was able to put together a couple of convincing races after a disappointing Superpole performance.

Back on a four-cylinder machine after a couple of years on the big Ducati L-twin, the three-times WSBK runner-up finished the two races in Australia in ninth and seventh, laying the basis for a positive 2011 season. Currently lying seventh in the standings with 16 points, Haga is looking to the future with confidence.

"I'm happy with the result of these two races," he said. "We constantly improved and we can keep on doing so, thanks to an excellent technical package. Unfortunately we were damaged during the second part of both the races by some tyre problems that didn't allow us to get a better result. After some adjustments that the team did on the bike between race 1 and 2, the tyre duration got better and I could fight for the leading places almost until the chequered flag. I'm sure that the experience gained will turn out to be useful and we will be even stronger at the second round of the season."

Staring begins international career

staring_saturdayReigning Australian Superbike Champion Bryan Staring arrives in Italy today to begin his international road-racing career. The 23-year-old, three-time Australian Champion, is relocating to Italy to be near his team, Team Pedercini Kawasaki, and train for his Superstock 1000 season.

Bryan Staring declared: "I'm moving into an apartment at the base of the Alps, a fantastic place for cycling and training and only 15-minutes from the team headquarters. I'll be undertaking Italian lessons daily and I have access to a motocross track just five kilometers from my home, so I will be there most days training. I'm very excited about this opportunity and will begin training tomorrow. The area is fantastic, nice and quiet, and there is plenty of good cycling in the Alps".

Bryan impressed the Team Pedercini members with his outstanding display of pace, set-up skills and professionalism at round one of the World Superbike Championships, where he was entered as a wildcard. Staring was consistently fast and finished with a championship point in his debut race.

"The Phillip Island weekend was a steep learning curve - he said - but I did not feel out of place out there at all. What was a surprise was the pace of the front-runners. Those few seconds are hard to find and in many ways it was like learning all over again. In terms of gaining experience, it was a brilliant opportunity to spend some competitive time on the 2011 ZX-10R and I've learned a lot about the bike, which will be invaluable in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup championship this year."

Bike Modification India

Bike Modification India

Bike Modification India

Buying power of the Indians has increased manifold in the last decade or two, pushing bike manufacturers to launch new products as unprecedented pace. Bike enthusiasts, who have enough currency in their pockets, go for their fancied products, while those who have enough time and patience, but not money, try to get their bikes modified to make them look or perform like models of their choice.

Imitation of Super-bikes
As a matter of fact, most modified bikes are imitations of super-bikes. It is the psyche of every young to draw attention of the people, while riding super-bikes. However, with their price spanning several lakhs, it is not possible for every young to buy them. So they go for another option. They get a cheaper bike modified into a super-bike. Influences from entertainment industry and motor sports also play a role in fuelling the modifying tendency.

Types of Modifications
Bikes could be modified in two ways: Performance wise or Looks wise. You could go for the both too. Looks modification could give you the satisfaction of riding a super bike. However, performance modification in no way guarantees that your bike would not perform like the bike of your dreams.

Modification Kits
Today, modification kits are available for each and every part of bikes. You can get body parts altered or replaced with new moulded ones. If you are creative enough, you could think out your own design and ask companies to execute your ideas on your bike. Most body works are done using fiberglass reinforced plastic which offers one the quality of parts, perfect finish and a glazing surface. Looks-oriented modification kits include clip on handlebars, stylish graphics and stickers, mag-alloy wheels, rear view mirrors, tuned exhaust silencer, specially designed seats etc. You could also get fitted modified mudguards or petrol tanks on your bikes.

Most bike enthusiasts go for common modifications like removing the saree guard, rear view mirrors, changing the handle bar, increasing the size of the rear tyre, using alloy wheels and changing shock absorbers etc. Some go for an entire body alteration while retaining the engine. Some get the sound modified. A diffuser gives the base sound of a Harley Davidson while chambers endow the effect of dirt bikes and race bikes. An exhaust gives the effect of a powerful bike.

Who to Approach
We would advise you to approach any experienced bike modifier rather than a simple mechanic. It is a job to be done by specialists. So you better leave it to a specialist. Do proper consideration before deciding on a modifier.

Effects of Modifications
You must keep in mind that modification does not change a cheaper bike to super bike. It just fakes the physical appearance. So even if you get a bike resemble a highly superior bike, you must be aware of the limitations of the basic model. Performance modifications do increase the efficiency of the bike, to a limited extent. Body modification usually decreases mileage and performance, for the basic engine is not toned to those accoutrements.

Word of Caution
Whenever you go for getting your machine remodeled, its market value decreases. Bike manufacturers too give the warning that even minute alterations on the bike affect its performance.

Ferrari 900 DOHC Project By Kay Enginerring

Ferrari 900 DOHC Front Side View Ferrari 900 DOHC Project By Kay Enginerring
1995 Ferrari 900cc motorcycle by ‘David Kay Engineering’ Frame and engine no: SF-O1M
It all started when David Kay wrote to Enzo Ferrari’s son Piero, requesting to build a one-off motorcycle sporting the famous prancing horse badge in tribute to his late father. In a letter dated Maranello, 23rd May 1990 and signed by P. Ferrari himself (included in the comprehensive press and information file on this lot) Kay receives: ‘the approval to place the Ferrari badge on your motorbike’ and is wished good luck with his project. When highly reputed MV Agusta ‘guru’ David Kay set about building this unique piece of engineering from scratch, he looked towards both the future and the past, as he thought of what may have been if Ferrari would have decided to produce a GT or endurance racing machine. Kay was inspired by the fact that Enzo had started his racing on a Scott two-stroke machine and so a project representing over 3,000 man-hours of work was launched.

The engine is a ’scratch built’ 900cc, transverse, double overhead camshaft, four cylinder, eight valve unit with magnesium and alloy casings, driven through a five speed gearbox. The tubular chassis is made of Reynolds 531 tube, engineering on the motorcycle is irreproachable and the detail is quite astounding. The attention to this is quite incredible, with the master cylinder built into the obviously one off digital instrument panel and is again portrayed with the exquisite steering damper.

Terry Hall, who also produced the double curvature reverse cone megaphones, made the entire bodywork out of aluminium. In Kay’s own words these are too beautiful to merely funnel exhaust gases from engine to atmosphere; ‘the noise is like a Messerschmitt chasing a Spitfire’. The front end is very contemporary in conception with Forcelle Italia upside down forks, massive twin piston Brembo disc brakes front and rear (6 pot callipers to the front, 4 to the rear) and special 17 inch hand spun Astralite wheels. WPS twin rear shock absorbers complete the basic specification.

MV Agusta Brutal 920 Review and Specs Detail

MV Agusta Brutal 920 Front View MV Agusta Brutal 920 Review and Specs DetailMV Agusta Brutal 920 Front View
The MV Agusta model line-up is expanding with the introduction of the new BRUTALE and the 920 engine. This incredible naked has enamored the motorcycle world with its unique design that has been to date unequaled. Ever since its introduction the BRUTALE has continued to be the leader in both design and performance. With the launching of the new BRUTALE, the most beautiful and powerful naked is now within reach of an even larger number of riders whom have always dreamed of experiencing the emotions only the BRUTALE can deliver. A new engine, new chassis settings, a onepiece seat design with a focus on comfort, the BRUTALE offers a new interpretation of a high performance naked. A motorcycle that offers aggressive styling and raw performance matched with an intuitive chassis. A Brutale that is always incredible easy to ride and has never been this comfortable and intuitive.
On a cost per performance basis, the BRUTALE is without a doubt the new reference in the naked sport category. A technologically advanced 4 cylinder engine with radial intake and exhaust valves coupled with the same advanced engine control unit as the 1090RR together with one of the most evolved chassis’s the BRUTALE is able to easily tame even the most demanding roads and racetracks.
This advanced performance is also coupled with a new look, with the color black dominating the new styling of the radiator shrouds and seat. But, looks are not everything and a major focus was also placed on rider comfort with a re-designed single seat that improves both rider and passenger comfort during every day use. The BRUTALE project continues to remain faithful to the original objectives, MV wanted to build the most compact and light weight naked coupled with a superbike chassis together with raw engine performance that would enamor even the most demanding motorcyclist.
The principle characteristics of the new BRUTALE are:
* Four cylinder engine with radial valves
* Magneti Marelli 5SM engine control module
* Traction control with 8 levels of intervention
* Tubular steel frame coupled with aluminum side plates for maximum torsional rigidity
* Single sided swingarm with a adjustable Sachs rear shock
* Marzocchi upside down 50mm adjustable front forks
* Brembo racing radial calipers
* New single piece seat that is both lower and narrower

THE DESIGN
The new BRUTALE is without a doubt Brutale, but at the same time this is a new interpretation of the most admired naked in the world. The attention to detail is what makes this new model different and even easier to use in everyday riding. The single piece seat is both more comfortable for the rider as well as the passenger, the turn signals are no longer integrated into the mirrors but have been placed in a position for better visibility during city traffic, the suspension is now softer and more comfortable. A Brutale that is easier to use than ever before but with the same maniacal attention to detail that one has come to expect from MV Agusta. Just one look at the tubular steel frame, the anodized handlebars with pivoting clamps, the pure form of design of the shift and brake levers, the single sided swingarm and unique wheels and it clear why the Brutale is the most beautiful naked in the world.
The two available color schemes are black and white. The single sided swingarm along with the unmistakable styling make this new BRUTALE unique. A masterpiece of Italian Design, the attention to detail and monochromatic color schemes helps to highlight the technical details like the over-under side mounted exhaust and the original MV Agusta frame design integrating tubular steel and aluminum side plates.
THE ENGINE
The 4 cylinder 16 radial valve MV Agusta engine has reached a new level of evolution and technology. The 921cc, a new engine displacement for Brutale, finds the perfect balance between power and drivability. The new displacement of the legendary 4 cylinder is obtained with a new bore and stroke ratio with a focus on optimizing the power curve of the BRUTALE to be even more manageable while at the same time offering the class leading power. The new four cylinder MV Agusta matches 129 horsepower with a broad torque curve, incredible levels of power have never been this easy to control.
The crankshaft of the BRUTALE is shared with the 55mm stroke unit in the 1090RR as well as the 2nd order engine balance shaft and the optimized oiling system and the oil cooled generator. The BRUTALE has a number of dedicated engine components including the new cylinder block and 73mm pistons as well as a cooling system with the radiator catch tank which is now at the same pressure as the atmosphere helping to keep the engine temperature under control even in the most extreme track or city driving conditions. The intake system breaths through a bank of 46mm Mikuni throttle bodies working together with the hyper sophisticated engine management system. The Magneti Marelli 5SM ecu controls the fuel injection, ignition and the various maps. The double engine map (Normal and Sport) allows the rider to tune the engine management system to the conditions and coupled with 8 position variable traction control the BRUTALE can be ridden to the limit while always remaining under control.

THE CHASSIS
The BRUTALE shares its chassis configuration and geometry with the 990R and 1090RR as well as most of the chassis components. The frame is a mixture of a steel trellis structure and lateral aluminum plates that has become the trademark of MV Agusta since the first application on the F4, a frame structure that has been continually copied but never equaled by other manufacturers. The chassis dimensions are the same as on the other Brutale models offering a perfect dynamic balance and a precise response to rider inputs. With a 1430 mm wheelbase, 25° steering head angle and 103,5 mm of trail the new BRUTALE offers without a doubt the best balance of agility and stability. A technical feature the new BRUTALE is a new steering head which offers optimized rigidity for this type of naked which will without a doubt become the new reference for easy handling.
Coupled with the revised steering head design is new suspension valving which is both softer and smoother to give the maximum amount of feedback even to less experienced riders. But, make no mistakes, the new BRUTALE is still Brutale, thanks to the infinite amount of tuning possible with the 50 mm Marzocchi USD front forks and Sachs mono shock. With just a few clicks you can easily transform the BRUTALE into a track weapon. BRUTALE is also known for its agility: coupled with the new Pirelli Angel tires the feedback from the tarmac is always immediate and the 180/55 section rear tire aids in putting down the 129 horsepower from the MV 4 cylinder engine. Performance of a supersport and handle of a middleweight, the new BRUTALE from MV Agusta continues to redefine the naked sportbike segment.
